12 March 2013 - Spaghetti hotdog - by Chef Mila

Today we cooked something really cool with Mila: "spaghetti hotdog"

It is actually very funny and super easy to prepare, look by yourself!!

Ingredients:
- Spaghetti
- Sausages

Mila is carefully taking one spaghetti...

...and is sticking the spaghetti into the piece of sausage...

It takes a while to prepare them all and Mila is doing a terrific job!!

All done!!
Now just cook the spaghetti until they are "al dente" and enjoy your "spaghetti hotdog".

07 March 2013 - Brighter idea in the living and dining room

Following the kitchen renovations on mid-January (see here), we decided that the electrician was "capable" enough to do something similar in our living & Dining room ;-)

We decided to replaced all "chandelier" and ceiling lights and replace them by similar recessed lights.

The only difference is the outside "ring" which is "black" in the kitchen (due to the low ceiling) and white elsewhere. The electrician managed to find almost the same lights enclosure has what has been originally installed...about 10 years ago!!!

Here are a few pictures of the "before":

Ceiling light in the lobby
The dining table light and the stairs light...

The team made a great work! It was not very easy to add additional lights in the ceiling; they had to run a cable from the ceiling, down to the basement and up again to the main light-switch board...without breaking anything!!! I now have a cable going through my garage but this is ok (they did the best they could possibly do).

Now the "during" pictures:

The ceiling is about 18 feet high (6 meters)...so is the ladder!!!

They left the ladder that evening so that I could touch up a little the ceiling (paint)
Everything was done in about a day and a half. In total, they have installed 12 recessed lights, in which I inserted energy efficient light bulbs. I have now reduced my electricity usage to about 1/10th of what I was using originally!

The results is breathtaking, we should have done that a long time ago. The main lobby is now super bright and it really looks so much nicer than before.

Our new lobby
As per the living & dining area, we initially were quite sceptical to have  recessed lights on a so high ceiling. We were a little "afraid" that it will look like a museum or an art gallery. Playing with the light intensity on the two zones (dining / Living room), helped to create different zones and it is now perfectly set-up. Look by yourself!

Our new lights in the stairs

Our new dining & living room
We actually installed brighter light bulbs on top of the dining area (120 watt equivalent); everywhere else, we have 65 watt equivalent.

What will be our next renovations? You'll see in a future episode ;-)

08 February 2013 - Eric and Frank in the Colorado (Colorado-2013)

"Trop cool, de bleu"...Eric and Frank are back for Colorado 2013!!! Yeah!!!

Last year we already had some extraordinary ski and snowboard in the Rockies...but this year, we decided to take it to the next level and prepared ourself really well:

  • Eric went to the swimming pool on a weekly basis!
  • He also started jogging (he promised it last year!!) - Bravo!
  • We decided NOT to commute anymore from Denver to the ski resorts
  • ...so that to be able to spent more time on the slopes :-)
  • Finally, we wanted to ski more and more and more...MOOOORRREEEE!!!

So, taking all the above points into consideration, here was our "BIG" plan:
  • We bought 7 days ski passes to enjoy more ski & snowboard
  • We rented out a condo in the mountain (@ Breckenridge)
Somehow, we decided to ski a little bit earlier in February, which was a very wise decision as we completely avoided the crowd of the long "President Day" weekend... Colorado-2013 started on 8th February and ended on 17th February!!!

Eric and Frank @ Denver International Airport
For the story: Eric and Frank are quite relaxed on this picture (above)... I must say that they had a trip full of emotions!! Their flight got delayed...and they missed their connection in Washington DC.
They managed to catch an early plane and finally arrived in DIA by 19:30. But that was not all!! When they arrived at the baggage collection...no bags...no bags...no bags...AAAAAHHHHHHAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH NO BAGS (WTF!!!)!!!!
We spent about 45 minutes filling up documents and have a Guest Service lady helping us routing the bags...to ou final destination...in Breckenridge!!! We even managed to have rentals (all equipments) for the first day (nice!!).
While heading towards the car park, a little upset...guess what...Eric's and Frank's luggages where slowly cruising on the belt ;-)
Arrived home, we had nice local beers... WELCOME HOME!
The "A-Team" of Colorado 2013!!!
