18 July 2014 - Vacations in Kuala Lumpur (...and US Visa renewal...)

Waileng and Mila decided to spend the summer 2014 in Malaysia (2 months!!). So beside riding in Utah and in enjoying Steamboat Springs, I had another goal: renewing our family L1 US working visa.

The entire renewal process is fairly easy but somehow it turned out to be a complete nightmare!! After a nice weekend in KL, we all had to go to the US Embassy. So far so good.
All the paperworks have been approved. It usually takes about a week to be completed but I am being told that we should have it the next day (yeah!!)...

So the next day, we show up again at the US Embassy, relief that the whole process was so smooth... There, an agent tells us that the entire system went down and that we should change our flights...not knowing exactly when the issue would be fixed :-(

Long story short (making it really short), we decided to pick up our passports back from the US Embassy and not having our US visas renewed... Luckily, the trip was well planned and our current visas were still valid for a couple of weeks  after our planned returned date to the US.

Now with our passports in hand, we were free to travel again!! So we decided to go to Singapore for a few days. It was really nice to see our long time friends (Anita, Steven, Hung...missed Igor by a couple of hours).

Here are some pictures of our trips in Asia:

Overall, it was great fun to go back to Asia...after so many years!! It was just sooo looonnng to go there (~40h door to door)!!

The return to the US was also another story... Once landed in Los Angeles, we had to get some new immigration document (I-94). Since we could not extend our Visa, the idea was to have these documents valid for 3 years... and we had to wait about 2h with the other immigrants; but at the end we manage to get it... Why did we do that? ...simply to be able to renew / extend our driving license which was expiring with our US visa. All this administration is driving me nuts, but no choice...better go through this than being an illegal driver in the US!!
